Elderson is a defender for Sivasspor. He also plays for his national team, Nigeria. He won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with them and featured at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as well as the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. He won the Portuguese League Cup with Braga and has featured in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
In the beginning …
Elderson started out at the Pepsi Academy in Benin after a stint at Megapp Academy, also in the ancient city of Benin.It was from Benin that he was snapped up by the Pepsi Academy in Lagos under the guidance of Kashimawo Laloko. It was here that he began to try out in other positions before he finally settled for the left fullback position. He began his senior career at hometown club Insurance FC of Benin and made his first-team debut at the tender age of 16. He was the fans’ delight with his great display and was there from 2004 to 2007 where he summed up 35 appearances; also featuring in the 2005 CAF Confederation Cup for Insurance, where they played to the second round.
“Insurance was my first professional club. I enjoyed my football there even though some of the conditions were not easy, Coach Cooreman, for one, gave me confidence.” Coach Maurice Cooreman gave Elderson his big break at Insurance and often played him as a left winger.It was around that time that he featured for Nigeria at the 2005 African U17 Championship in The Gambia.
Venturing into Europe …
Elderson began his European adventure when he joined StadeRennais of France in 2007 after he stood out at the 2007 U20 World Cup in Canada, where Nigeria reached the last eight.He played his first French Ligue 1 game on December 23, 2007, in a goalless draw with Toulouse. That season, he featured prominently for the reserves and played 10 games for the main team.He was at the ambitious French club from 2007 to 2010 before he sought greener pastures after first-team appearances were few and far between.

Experience – the best teacher …
In the summer of 2010, Elderson signed for Sporting Club de Braga in Portugal and made a goal-scoring debut for Braga, getting on the score board from a corner kick in a 3-0 demolition of Celtic in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round.
He played 68 games and scored eight goals and was part of the squad that reached the Europa League final against fellow Portuguese club FC Porto.For the 2011/2012 season, Elderson made his UEFA Champions League debut as Braga reached the group stage of the competition after they eliminated Udinese of Italy.He was an important part of the team who clinched the Portuguese League Cup for the 2012/2013 season, a first major trophy in over four decades.
On January 17, 2014, Elderson signed a four and a half year contract with top French club AS Monaco FC.
He is currently playing for Turkish club Sivasspor as a left back.
