Super Eagles defender, Elderson Echiejile was in action in the Turkish super lig over the weekend and was behind many of Sivasspor best moments both in the heart of the defense and on the wing back.
Elderson Echiejile was on for the full duration of Sivasspor’s match against Göztepe in the league 6-week match at the New 4 Eylül Stadium, unfortunately, it was a loss. The team lost 3-2.
Adis Jahovic scored one of the goals for the red-and-white team, while Arouna Kone scored the other and Goztepe scored three goals, two of them penalties.
The Demir Group’s club suffered a bit at the start of the second half when Carl Medjani was out of the game with a red card in the last minute of the first half.
Sivasspor had lost 6 points in the league with this defeat.
Samet Aybaba’s use of a diamond midfield dictated the tactical battle here – Sivasspors’ narrowness meant Echiejile and Ridvan Simsek pushed on repeatedly, stretching the opponents and providing good balls into the box.
On the other hand, leaving two players up front meant Goztepe could play direct passes from defense to attack.
Sivasspor’s two full-backs were invited forward regularly, which meant Goztepe adapted and squashed their diamond into a more-conventional, flat midfield quartet.
Despite the loss, Echiejile also remains hopeful that his Turkish Super Lig club Sivasspor will compete for the honour this season.
He said to reporters after the match: “We are new in the league this year and what goes for us is that element of surprise which will help the team compete for honours.”
Sivasspors will host Antalyaspor at the New 4 Eylul Stadium at 14.00 on Saturday, September 30, 2017, in the next game of the Super League’s 7th-week match.
